Many have asked why you need to break spaghetti into halves, when making spaghetti ground beef in the Instapot. This is because the whole spaghetti noodle won’t fit in the Instant Pot, and will not be able to completely cook through.
Don’t have ground beef on hand? You can use ground chicken or ground turkey in this recipe, instead of ground beef.
You can use other pasta in this recipe, for example take a look at Easy Instant Pot Cheesy Taco Pasta.
The key to this recipe is to break the spaghetti noodles into halves, and make sure they are totally submerged in the liquid, while also not mixing everything together. Follow instructions in the recipe card below for cooking the most delicious Instant Pot Spaghetti Noodles.

- 1 Yellow Onion medium
- ¾ lb Spaghetti
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- ¾ tbsp Italian Seasoning
- 28 oz Crushed Tomatoes
- 3 cups Water
Instructions
- Peel and chop the onion. Set the Instant Pot to Saute and add Olive oil to the Instant Pot. Once the oil is hot, add the onions. Saute them for a few minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the onions.
- Add crushed tomatoes and water and mix. Break spaghetti into halves and put on top of the mixture.
- Push the spaghetti into the mixture, so that pasta is fully submerged into liquid.
- Place the lid on the Instant Pot, use the manual setting, and cook for half of the amount of time that your pasta packaging says. Round up, if the number of minutes is odd. Use Natural Release, and wait for the valve to drop. Carefully open the lid.
- The sauce will be liquid-y. Let it cool for a bit, then take out the inner pot and place on a trivet to cool for 5-10 more minutes. The sauce will thicken. You can also add some cream or half and half at this point, if using.

One whole onion? Recipe doesn’t specify amount of onion.
Yes, please use one medium yellow onion. We added this to the Spaghetti recipe card above.
You realize you don’t list the onions as an ingredient?
Hi, we added one medium yellow onion to the recipe card.
I make spaghetti all the time in my 6=quart pot, and always make lots of it, and portion it out into Tupperware containers that is enough for hubby and I for one meal with a salad… I freeze 4 to 6 containers at one time, they freeze great and we thaw them out, and it doesn’t ruin it at all, doesn’t go mushy or anything…thaw in sink during the day, then divide between two plates and heat in microwave until hot and steamy! Perfect every time for those days you don’t feel like cooking, I just have to make a salad and bang, dinner is ready! Question though, I always used stewed tomatoes but now due to diverticulitis Dr. Said no more foods with seeds in them. So can I use just tomato sauce and spice that up instead of diced, or stewed tomatoes! What do you think, we love our getti so much! Thanks in advance!
Hi, Jean. We have not tried this recipe with tomato sauce, but I think it should work. Please let us know how it turns out, if you try it!
Really liked how this came out! I used my homemade tomato sauce and it was delicious.
Can I use a different cut of pasta in this recipe?
Can I use a jar of sauce instead of crushed tomatoes or will I get the burn signal?
