I used to only steam vegetables, such as Steamed Green Beans and Steamed Asparagus, until I found out that you can get very similarly steamed vegetables in the microwave. And steaming vegetables in the microwave takes just a few minutes, instead of steaming on stovetop, where you need to wait for water to boil first.
Naturally, as I always do when i find out about an easier way of doing something, I test it out. I tested this healthy microwave broccoli recipe many times, and now want to share it with you as well! It is so simple to make, and you get steamed, delicious veggies in no time.
How To Microwave Broccoli
Here is the simple and delicious recipe for making microwaved broccoli, step by step.
1. Wash the broccoli, and cut the broccoli off the stems. Sometimes the store sells broccoli crowns, which means most of the stem has already been cut off. If it looks wilted, cut off a bit more of the stem anyway.
2. Separate it into smaller florets, so that you can use it once it is done cooking in the microwave.
3. Put water and broccoli into a microwave safe bowl.
4. Cover with a microwave cover and then microwave for 2 to 5 minutes.
Pro Tip: If you are wondering, how long to microwave broccoli, it will depend on what you want to use it for. If you are going to eat microwaved broccoli as a side dish, or use it in a salad without cooking it any further, then microwave it for 4 to 5 minutes. If you are going to use it to make a casserole or a Broccoli Stir Fry, then microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. That way it will have some bite to it, and will not fall apart when you cook it further.
5. When you make microwaved vegetables, the bowl and the vegetables, and the cover are going to get very hot. Make sure to use oven mitts when collecting the bowl. Cool the vegetables, and you are ready to eat them, or use in other recipes!
